Masters Message Summer 2021

Greetings Brothers,

Thank you for the confidence and trust you have placed in me by electing me to serve as Master of Saint Johns Lodge #1 Providence. It is a responsibility that I accept with humility and reverence for the proud history of this lodge and of the Craft.

Brothers, I love this lodge. Having the opportunity to serve you as a line officer these seven years has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I love this lodge for its commitment to charity, to the community, and to the country. I love this lodge for its unwavering dedication to Masonic tradition and its pursuit of ritual excellence. And I love this lodge for the bonds of fraternity and fellowship that cement us, bonds that prove that Freemasonry is alive and well at a time when its lessons are needed most.

It with that love and dedication that I now approach the East, ready as ever to serve the brethren of Saint Johns Lodge to the very best of my ability.

We have, without question, lived through one of the most trying periods of any of our lifetimes. This year has taken so much from us so much time, so much joy, so many loved ones that we can only mourn and can never replace.

We were each given a sharp reminder of the lesson that life is a winding staircase, and that we cannot ever know what is beyond the next turn. Even the most basic things we take for granted today can be taken from us tomorrow, and that we must make the most of the time we have together. We can honor what we have lost only by keeping precious what we have here today.

We have an incredible year ahead of us. Saint Johns will present the Degrees in Freemasonry in October, January, and March to one of the largest classes of candidates that the Lodge has seen in years. The officers have already begun preparing for their parts in the degrees, and I can confidently say that Saint Johns will once again exemplify degree work that represents the gold standard for this jurisdiction.

But degree work is not all that we do. I have scheduled a calendar of top-tier presenters that I have sought out specifically for their ability to entertain, engage, and educate. I have taken special care to choose programs that I know will be of interest to both Masons and non-Masons alike, and I extend an invitation to you and all of our extended Masonic family – wives, partners, friends, and guests to please make room in your calendars to join us for these events. I promise you that you will not be disappointed!

Planning is already underway for our much-anticipated annual lodge traditions such as our Summer Picnic at Buttonwoods Park (Sunday, August 1), our Holiday Party at Alpine Country Club (Saturday, December 11), and our visitation with Euclid Lodge, who we will be hosting this year. We also are looking forward our Christmas Baskets event (Saturday, December 18), and a number of other fantastic events that I will soon announce.

My brothers, Saint Johns’ star has never been brighter, and I am grateful to have the support of one of the strongest and most dedicated lines of officers that I believe any lodge has ever fielded. My officers and I look forward to serving the brethren of our lodge with pride and distinction over the coming year.

Fraternally,

Scott E. Miller
